Good Bureaucracy: Not a Unicorn?

You don’t hear many things happening in favor of the environment these days.  But the occasional visit to the World Wildlife Federation website can– yes, reinforce woes– or it can spark a teensy tiny bit of relief, or even– dare we say– pride? Pride that our government at least took pause long enough to dissuade further destruction of our natural resources?

Now, I’m not usually a fan of bureaucracy.  Let it be known that I’ve had many a heated conversation with the countless customer service representatives at United Airlines and Bank of America.  But when enough government agencies and commissions raise objection and wave their paperwork to the point that Shell throws up its hands at its current drilling plans in Alaska, it seems as though I’m looking at the (gulp) positive effects of some bureaucracy.  Conceivable?  Barely.
